LOIS YOGA IMMERSION
In Paradise (the Hamptons)!
With Master Teacher Lois Nesbitt

3 Weekends (Saturday and Sunday)
OCTOBER 14/15, OCTOBER 28/29, AND NOVEMBER 18/19

Seems like everyone practices yoga today—but so few have any idea where yoga’s great ideas and life-saving techniques come from, why they work as well as they have for centuries for yogis, and how we can and are constantly evolving yogas that mesh with the unique demands of modern life.

You can’t pick this up in drop-in classes. And unless you want to teach, there is no formal way to gather this knowledge (as well as tune up your own practice!)—except in the rare yoga immersion. While Lois has trained thousands of teachers worldwide, she wants all students to up their game by learning more about how to practice smart yoga and why we practice in the first place.

Why immerse? This program will:

  • lay out the tools to refine your practice on the mat

  • introduce you to powerful breathwork and blissful meditation

  • map out just enough anatomy for you to see how yoga works from the inside out—as well as yoga’s own view of the subtle (energy) body that shapes who you are and what you do

  • trace the origins of yoga and how it’s evolved from ancient India into the West’s most popular holistic therapy for body, mind, and heart

Get the Big Picture by signing on for all 3 weekends, or come to the weekends/days/sessions you can fit into your schedule. Either way, you’ll be glad you seized this opportunity to learn from one of the yoga world’s top instructors—right here in your backyard! ☺

*Coming from out of town? East Hampton is easily accessible by bus and train, and options for affordable housing are available.

YOGA FOR SPECIAL POPULATIONS
20HRS YOGA ALLIANCE ACCREDITED CET WORKSHOP
With Master Teacher Lois Nesbitt (NEW YORK)

Melbourne, Australia
June 17-18, 24-25, 2017

When it comes to yoga, one size definitely does not fit all! As every teacher can tell you, facing a class of mixed levels, body types, and needs can make leading an intelligent class seem almost impossible. Students can be equally baffled when trying to sort out why yoga doesn’t always feel so great and how they can find a practice that works for them.

No worries! Lois is here to help you sort things out, offering detailed tips and tricks to make yoga make sense for everyone. This highly practical workshop will look at the needs of specific populations and how yoga can best serve each group, including:

  • Helping beginners to feel safe and confident with classes by introducing poses that are both manageable and appropriate (you’d be surprised how few teachers understand where to start with this challenging group!)
  • Coping with “multi-level” classes: how to keep advanced students rolling along without leaving beginners in the dust!
  • Athletes: most yoga students also “cross-train,” pursuing other sports. Learn how to sequence classes for runners, surfers, skiers, swimmers, tennis players, golfers—you name it!
  • Frequent travelers: Travel can stress our bodies in many ways, from hours standing on lines or sitting on planes to adapting to time difference, strange beds, and different climates. How yoga can help those on the go stay sane, healthy, and vibrant!
  • The elderly: we’re all headed that way, and aging populations make up an increasingly large portion of the population in developed countries. But that doesn’t mean they’re all candidates for “chair yoga!” Learn the common challenges facing aging bodies and how yoga can keep the elderly up and about
  • Many students come to yoga to cope with anxiety, depression, hypertension, attention deficit disorder, and other mental/emotional imbalances. Each requires its own protocol, but yoga is vast and varied enough to help with all!

With Lois’ help, we’ll design sequences for these populations, try them out on our own bodies, and recap what works best.

*This course is for everyone, students and teachers of all levels.

*Yoga Teachers who have completed a 200-hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Training may count these 20 hours towards Lois’s 300-hour Advanced Teacher Trainings. Workshop hours can also be counted as Continuing Education hours with Yoga Alliance and Continuing Professional Development hours with Yoga Australia.

BODY SHOP! 30-HOUR YOGA ALLIANCE ACCREDITED
INJURY CLINIC AND HEALING INTENSIVE CET WORKSHOP
With Master Teacher Lois Nesbitt

Melbourne, Australia
June 19–23, 2017

Bodies break down—yet yoga tells us they don’t have to! The right kind of yoga allows you to practice safely and live free of injuries and afflictions, as well as to care for your body off the mat. This training guides you deep into the body, engaging your anatomy, your yoga, your mind and your heart as the route to healing from the inside out—and preventing future harm!

We’ll map out key parts of the body and focus the common injuries and conditions in each area. Each day features:

  • Lively yoga practice to wake up your body and your mind
  • Review of the muscles and bones we use in yoga (and daily life!)
  • Explanation of the most common injuries in every part of the body (shoulders, hips, knees, lower backs, wrists, necks, feet, ankles, and more!)
  • Practical instruction in how to help heal and prevent injuries using hands-on adjustments as well as simple exercises and modified yoga poses that empower students to participate in their healing

Bring your injuries as well as your minds so we identify specific problems and restore balance throughout your body. This deeply practical program will change the way you treat your body forever!

In addition to training teachers worldwide, Lois Nesbitt leads a weekly Injury Clinic in New York, where she has worked with everything from tight “typing shoulders” to students recovering from drastic events like earthquakes and the September 11 terrorist attack on New York City. She is widely recognized as an expert in working with injuries and helping others to heal.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:

HANDS, WRISTS, ELBOWS, SHOULDERS, NECK, AND HEAD

Our upper bodies suffer from poor posture: slumping, driving, working on a computer, carrying babies, as well as tension. Add to this unskillful yoga practice—putting weight on the arms, neck, and head without understanding how it works—can cause further damage. Learn how to open up, stand tall, breathe freely, and heal injuries to shoulders and neck.
Our arms and hands are our physical links to the world around us, yet we often abuse them through poor habits and sloppy yoga. Recover full use of these powerful limbs and practice free from pain!

FEET, ANKLES, CALVES, KNEES, THIGHS, AND LOWER BACK

We rarely give our feet and knees much thought—until they cause us pain! Yet the feet are what supports us as we stand and move through the world. The knee mediates between the foot and the rest of the body, often taking the strain of misalignments from above and below. Yoga and sports also place specific challenges on knees, often causing unnecessary injuries.
The pelvis is the body’s center of gravity. It is also the crucial link between the legs and the torso, shaping how we move as well as our overall posture. Pain in the hips and lower backs is everywhere today, as more of us sit most of the day.  Realigning the pelvis can release tight muscles, alleviate pain, and restore full range of movement. Why wait? Whatever your age, start today on the road to healthy hips!

*This course is for everyone, students and teachers of all levels. It is open to yoga teachers, yoga students, and “civilians” who have never practiced yoga but want to learn how to protect and heal the body and potentially to avoid resorting to medication, surgery, and other medical interventions.

*Yoga Teachers who have completed a 200-hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Training may count these 30 hours towards Lois’s 300-hour Advanced Teacher Trainings. Workshop hours can also be counted as Continuing Education hours with Yoga Alliance and Continuing Professional Development hours with Yoga Australia.
